Equine Therapy
Equanimity Equine Assisted Therapy is a mind, body, spirit approach to supporting clients to find deep healing and restore balance in their lives. Whether it’s physical, mental or emotional, we work to support clients to find equilibrium and capacity to enjoy their lives once again.
Working outdoors with a herd of horses offers a unique healing opportunity for clients to explore life’s challenges in gentle yet powerful ways, gaining results that can be immediate, profound and humbling - all supported by the presence of the herd.
Grounded in the latest in neuroscience, somatic experiencing and trauma recovery, Equanimity takes those fundamentals combining them with the elements of earthiness, horses and spiritual wisdom.

How does it work?
Our horses know each other, the facilitator, and their environment, however you are the novelty when you enter their environment. When you enter their space, they need to know if they will be safe around you.
Consequently, they will be sensing into your energy (such as your body language, the state of your nervous system, how present you are, your congruence, etc.) to determine how safe they are around you.The horses work at liberty, meaning they’re free to move around. This is because their first instinct when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable is to move away.
When horses are restrained – such as being tied up, they can’t move away, so their only defence may be to bite or kick when they feel threatened. Horses are safer for us to be around if they have the freedom to move away from us to a place where they feel safe and comfortable.
Therefore, our horses remain at liberty which keeps us and them safe. When we are in their space, our bodies’ nervous systems naturally entrain or synchronise to the restorative rhythms of the horses. This can have the effect of re-setting our own nervous system to a state of equilibrium. From this balanced state, we gently begin to address what is causing you distress.
